I have used prepaid cell phones for a while and people always ask me what the best prepaid cell phone is. Well that really is a loaded question because much of that depends on what you are using the phone for and what your needs are. It really depends as many people will be using a prepaid cell phone for different things, some for emergencies, some for everyday use; even others have international prepaid cell phones for when they travel abroad. Again, determining what the best prepaid cell phone is in these cases can be very difficult as each person will see one set or sets of features as more important than the other. That being said, for me the best prepaid cell phone is TracPhone. The reason for that is they offer the features that I want regardless of where I am going and what I am doing with the phone.

Why The TracPhone Is The Best Prepaid Cell Phone

There are several things that for me make the TracPhone by far and away the best prepaid cell phone you can get. The first thing is how long the minutes are good for. With a Tracphone your minutes will be good for 3 months time. With many other phones you may only get a month or even less. This is a very important feature for any user. What this means is that no matter what, you can hold onto your phone for three months before having to re-up your minutes. In addition, you can pay so that the minutes on the phone never expire if you are willing to pay a bit extra. This is an amazing feature because it means that you only have to pay one price and can keep the phone active for as long as you want. While it may seem that this is only really useful to people using the phone for emergency purposes, the fact is that if you infrequently use the phone it is one less thing to think about.

The next thing about my TracPhone that makes it the best prepaid cell phone you get is how cheap the minutes are. You can get minutes for less than ten cents if you buy enough of them. I usually try to purchase as many minutes as I can and make sure that I have the no expiration feature on the phone so that I can just pay one cell phone bill per year. This usually will cover almost all of my talk time and I use the phone for personal use. Now I am not really a cell phone kind of guy, but if I need someone to get a hold of me or want to make a quick phone call it is a great option to have.

If you are in the market for a prepaid cell phone, then there are some things you need to have in your plan to truly maximize your use and spending for the phone. Not all prepaid cell phone plans are created equal and some have significant advantages over others. If you are not familiar with prepaid cell phone plans then this may be difficult to spot or find. I have had prepaid cell phone services for years and I can tell you there are some things I absolutely wished I had looked for in the beginning.

What You Need In Your Prepaid Cell Phone Plan

The first thing I always look for in my prepaid cell phone plan is how long the minutes are good for. There are some that are only good for a month, and others that range up to three months. Depending on price, I would recommend for the longest that you can possibly find, with three months being ideal. If you have a phone and the minutes are gone after a month, you probably are better off looking at a pay per month plan as opposed to a prepaid cell phone plan.

The next thing that may not be readily obvious in a prepaid cell phone plan is how long you have after the minutes expire to refresh and activate the phone. This is important because in general once the phone deactivates there is no way to reactivate it. I have seen plans that only offer a ten day grace period, but some can offer as much as six months. Again this will be totally up to you, but I would look for as long as possible on this as well so that you can keep the same number and same phone. Most of the expense in using prepaid cell phone plans is in the actual phone, so the longer you can guarantee you have the same one the better off you are.

Obviously both of these options have to be weighed against the cost for minutes to refill your phone. A phone with dirt cheap minutes probably will not have the best extra features that you can find, so you really have to balance out what is most important to you. Keeping in mind these two things however will keep you with your phone for longer, and that is definitely important, regardless of what your intention or use of the phone is.

Hopefully now you have a better idea of what to look for when you are shopping prepaid cell phone plans.

If you have considered getting a prepaid cell phone but are not sure if they are a good idea, then perhaps you have not been looking at them hard enough. There are many reasons to get a prepaid cell phone, as well some reasons not to. Cell phones have become a needed part of everyday life and with that many of the pricing and plans have spiraled out of hand. A prepaid cell phone plan is a good option for someone who is trying to get their bills under control.

How A Prepaid Cell Phone Can Help You

First off a prepaid cell phone is a fixed cost in that once you run out of minutes there is no credit card or bill to charge to, the phone simply shuts off. For some people, especially children, this is a great option. However if you are planning to use you cell phone for business this is probably not a good thing. You probably would not want the phone to run out of minutes right before or during and important call. But if you are using it for personal use then this is great.

Secondly you will not get charged for any features that you do not use. Many non prepaid cell phones do not offer the option to roll over minutes so any minutes that you do not use will end being wasted. You paid for that as part of your plan and now it is gone. With the prepaid cell phone you just simply have to refill if it runs out, and can use your minutes right up until they are used up. This means that you always will be able to use the phone up to its potential.

Another great feature of the cell phone is how inexpensive it is. For less than 10 dollars a month you can have a phone on you at all times. Now you will not be able to use this as you main phone, but if you need it in an emergency a prepaid cell phone is very handy to have. For those of us that would love to have a cell phone but do not feel they are affordable or cost effective, a simple prepaid phone can give you all the advantages with very few of the negatives.

As you can see, for personal and emergency use a prepaid cell phone offers those with limited incomes or budgets the ability to take advantage of the global cell phone networks without having to get roped and strapped into a long term contract and significant financial commitment.

Prepaid Cell Phone Review A Look At Three Popular Plans

If you are in the market for a new prepaid cellular phone, then this prepaid cell phone review is exactly what you are looking for. I have taken the time to look at three of what I consider to be the best cell phones available and write up a quick prepaid cell phone review for each so that you can pick the one that best fits into what you need.

TracFone Best Overall Of the Bunch

The first prepaid cell phone review is for the TracFone. They are one of the innovators and originators of the pre paid cell phone market. The good, and bad thing about TracPhone is that they only offer prepaid cell phones. This is good because they are very focused on the prepaid customers while other companies may have a tendency to let these customers slip as they already have their money in hand and generally speaking this is not where the companies make the most money. Because of this, TracFone offers unique and flexible plans to its customers so that you can have plenty of options for your phone. The bad thing is that TracFone is not one of the big wireless providers and rents cell tower time from other companies. In my experience I have been nothing but pleased with them however and rank them very high in my prepaid cell phone review.

Verizon Coverage At Its Best

Next up in the prepaid cell phone review is the Verizon prepaid cell phones. The options and prices for these phones do not compare as favorably with others, but what they lack in features and cost they more than make up for in service. Verizon offers the best possible phone coverage and area for their phones. In addition the network that the phones are on is incredibly reliable so you can expect rock solid performance and reception with a Verizon phone. Again this is perfect if you are looking for an emergency phone. I rank this phone very high for this purpose in my prepaid cell phone review.

T-Mobile Stay Away

I had one T-Mobile prepaid cell phone and it was nothing but trouble. I can not possibly tell you how frustrating the coverage was, how difficult talking to their customer service was, and how just in general awful the whole experience was. Given the choice I would stay far away from them and they rank poorly on my prepaid cell phone review.

There are many reasons why you would want to get an international prepaid cell phone. An international prepaid cell phone may not make sense for everyone, but there are people out there that can find a very good use for an international prepaid cell phone.

Getting An International Prepaid Cell Phone

If you have ever had to travel abroad for business or pleasure and come home to find a ridiculous cell bill with excessive charges from roaming minutes and long distance fees, the perhaps an international prepaid cell phone is just what you need to alleviate those costs. Firstly I would check to see how much you spent or plan on spending then seeing if you can find a phone that will be cheaper than what you expect to pay. While there really is not an international prepaid cell phone of choice, many prepaid cell phone providers offer options for international use. Check into these to see which plan best fits into what you will need. You can even look up prepaid cell phone reviews and apply those to the companies that offer international plans. These international prepaid cell phones should correspond with the regular phones as far as the reviews go.

If you are traveling with your family abroad, an international prepaid cell phone plan for multiple phones could be a very worthwhile investment. For around $10 a phone you have something that each of your children can use in case of emergency, or you can get in touch with them if need be. These are very handy especially if the kids are a bit older and want to go off and see their own thing. These phones provide a great and inexpensive way to stay in touch. The cost if you were using a traditional domestic cell phone plan to do this would be absolutely ridiculous, but if you can effectively keep all of your family members in touch there is no reason not to.

As you can see there are several compelling reasons for using an international prepaid cell phone over your regular phone when traveling to foreign lands. By having this disposable phone handy you can save yourself a fortune in fees and charges. In addition you do not have to worry nearly as much about losing, damaging, or getting the phone taken away as it really is just a disposable unit that you can use at your leisure.

If you are in an area with no service like the metro, turn your phone off. Roaming and searching for service can deplete a cell phone battery quickly. If you plan to be somewhere where you are not going to answer your phone such as a meeting, flight, or a movie theater, turn your phone off to save energy. If possible, try getting by without the vibrate function. Keep the volume of the ring tone low instead. The vibrate function can deplete your cell phone battery quickly. Back lights also use up a lot of cell phone battery power. If your phone does not have an ambient light censor, see if it will let you set the amount of time the back light stays on so it doesnt get used longer than necessary. One or two seconds is sufficient. Avoid using unnecessary features when you know that you arent going to be able to charge your cell phone battery for a while. That includes taking photos with flash, which can eat up your cell phone battery quickly.

Turn off Bluetooth, GPS, and WIFI, which can all drain your battery. Use your phone in GSM mode as opposed to 3G/Dual mode because your battery can last much longer that way. Tips for Prolonging Battery Life Learn more about the particular type of cell phone battery you have. Before their first use, nickel based batteries should be charged for about 16 hours while lithium ion batteries should be charged for around 5-6 hours. This will lengthen the life of the battery. Dont let your phone be exposed to high temperatures.

Keeping your cell phone battery cool will prolong its life. Dont leave your phone in direct sunlight or enclosed in a parked car on a sunny day. Also try not to carry it in your pocket all the time because your body temperature can keep it warm too long. Also see if your phone has a Battery Save option and if it does, use it. The life of your cell phone battery will increase if you turn on this option. Do yourself a favor and start following these tips so you can make the most out of your cell phone battery. Not only can these pointers prevent you from having to charge your phone so often, you can prolong the life of your cell phone battery thus save yourself the trouble of having to buy a new battery anytime soon.

If you are looking into flip phones, make sure there is a caller ID that allows you to see who is calling before opening the phone so you dont end up answering calls from people you are trying to avoid. Voice calling allows you to make calls without dialing anything, which is really handy if you are using a headset. If you use e-mail often, make sure you can send e-mails for your mobile phone. Instant text messaging is also a handy feature when you cant or dont want to talk. Speakerphone is very convenient for multi-tasking and conference-calling is essential for businesspeople. Also handy for businesspeople are mobile phones with push-to-talk services. With this service, a mobile phone can function like a walkie-talkie and you can connect with people instantly, all without a mobile signal. An aspect people often overlook when shopping around for a cell phone is the life of the cell phone battery. If you dont want to have to charge your cell phone often, look for what is called rated talk time. This measures how long you can use the phone before having to charge it.

Support Ever received a cell phone bill in the mail and realize you were charged for calls you didnt even make? Billing errors paired with a lack of good customer service are common gripes among cell phone users. A major cell phone service provider made the news last year by terminating 1,000 subscribers, claiming that they complained too much. So what can you do to avoid cell phone companies that dont respond quickly and efficiently to your requests? Look at consumer ratings and choose the cell phone service providers that have the best rep in terms of customer service. If necessary, file a complaint with a consumer advocate or public utility commission in your state.

Poor Coverage and Bad Service Quality are the Biggest Complaints Static, dropped calls, and lack of service in some areas are the biggest reasons why people switch cell phone service providers. Bad cell phone service quality can only be remedied by switching to another company in most cases. Unfortunately as of now all you can do is read consumer ratings and opinions to find out which company has the least complaints. Hopefully the companies will strive to improve their services so we dont have to keep switching from one cell phone service provider to another! High Termination Fees and Mandatory Contract Extensions Make Switching Difficult So you might be looking for a new cell phone service provider because you are unhappy with your current one, only to realize that in order to terminate your contract, you have to pay around 200 dollars.

If you are near the end of your contract, wait it out so you arent stuck paying the fee. Make sure when you sign up with a new cell phone service that you check if they offer trial periods. Use those trial periods as an opportunity to shop around and decide on a provider so you dont end up stuck in a plan that you are unhappy with.

When you change your plan, some companies will extend your contract without giving you any notice. Beware of this when you are considering buying a new phone with the same provider or when you switch to a promotional plan. The only way to avoid this problem is to read the fine print any time your cell phone service provider makes you promotional offers. So there you have it. Cell phone service has a long way to go before being satisfactory for the majority of consumers. For now all you can do is shop around for the best cell phone service provider based on consumer ratings and read the fine print and details before signing or agreeing to anything. By following those simple steps, you will avoid the most common problems and misunderstandings.

When cell phone companies advertise their latest deals, they usually forget to mention that their prices do not include taxes. You may think that taxes wont add up to much but the truth is that you can end up being charged up to 20% in taxes. Keep that into consideration when looking around for cell phone packages. Know the Meaning of Minutes and Local Calling There are night minutes, weekend minutes, peak minutes, off-peak minutes, and anytime minutes. If you are switching from one company to another, dont assume that both companies define their minutes in the same way. When looking for a cell phone package, find out what each company considers a local call.

Some companies may have a smaller local calling area while others have larger ones. The same goes for regional and national calling. Be aware that when you call outside of your local area, you may be charged fees for roaming if it is not a part of your plan. When your phone is roaming and you make calls you are doing so from another companys network and that is why you get charged additional fees. Find out what these fees are when you are shopping for a cell phone package.

The Consequences of Going over your Minutes Find out how much the fees are for going over your allotted minutes when you shop around for cell phone packages. Remember that you will end up paying more taxes if you are charged fees for going over your minutes. Just because you are worried about going over, dont buy a plan that has too many minutes if you dont think you will use your phone that frequently. That can also end up being costly. Your next step? Take this information into consideration and read a cell phone review before shopping around for a cell phone package. You will realize that behind all the supposed deals and low prices, there are hidden fees or terms in fine print that you didnt know about. Even if the cell phone representatives at the stores dont tell you the whole story, by keeping these factors in mind you will be able to choose a cell phone package that is fair and meets your needs.
